I Was A Child Grinch (part 3)

Guest post (Thank you, T!) :

I wanted walkie-talkies for Christmas. It was the apex of the CB craze and I imagined running around the woods and neighborhood using my cool CB lingo with my cool new walkie-talkies.

My dad was the indulgent one – and he liked his CB — so it was a slamdunk that my Christmas wish would be granted.

Christmas morning I opened the box and there it was – the best walkie-talkie you could get.

“Look,” my dad explained, “you can pull in different channels. I set you up with 19… the CB channel…and 14…the Walkie-Talkie channel!”

“But Dad,” I said…”there’s only …one… walkie talkie!”

His response: “Yes, well, there’s only one of you! What would you need two for?”

As an only child, I probably would have played with two walkie-talkies by running back and forth across the yard – alone

But just one walkie-talkie was a bit… painful.

So, I would lay in my room at night…
